Do you ever feel major crave nature’s connection?

If you are on my team, and the city living tires you out from time to time, please do yourself a favour and add Wanderlight Alpaca Experience to your list.

This beautiful farm is just a short two-hour drive from Toronto, in Lakefield, a lovely little town perfect for a weekend getaway anytime of the year.

The Alpaca Experience is a private sixty-minute walk hosted by Katie and her alpacas. My toddler enjoyed this adventure to the max, and we are looking forward to repeating it very soon! 

Arriving to the farm

We felt welcomed since getting out of the car: Katie, a bunch of duckies, chickens, and Lark (the cutest doggie), greeted us, and Santiago made himself at home chasing the ducks and even eating their food mistakenly when trying to feed them, lol. We started the experience with a good laugh, that’s for sure!

Katie will introduce you to the alpacas’ herd and share more information about these charming animals while you are getting comfortable around them. It really takes no time 🙂

You will select your lovely companions and start the walk. We chose Heaven and Puck!

I feel like they are similar to dogs in terms of affection and read that they prefer to follow rather than lead, and that’s how they behaved with us, but I might be wrong, hehe! That was just our one-day experience. 

They didn’t like to be petted but rubbed against us multiple times, just like dogs tend to do. They were very gentle and patient, and even Santiago led them a few times.

Great activity for children

I highly recommend this experience if you have kids: it shows them kindness and patience, promotes their curiosity and builds their trust and affinity with other living beings.

We were shocked by our toddler’s eagerness. He didn’t seem afraid or uncomfortable and loved running free with the alpacas by his side. Always had a big smile (despite the multiple insects, lol) and got pretty excited when a grasshopper jumped into him. 

Watching the world through our kids’ eyes remains on top of my happy list, and I’m sure you feel the same way. It might sound cheesy, but it is magical to see their first times. Don’t you think?

I highly recommend the visit! Definitely, a great find worth the drive!

Heads up: The farm is pretty popular!

Book online by visiting wanderlightalpaca.ca. It costs $35 per person, age 6-12 $25, and under 6 get to go for free. 

I emailed Katie a couple of months before our visit, and she reached out when the September calendar was about to open online. I’m not sure if the rest of the year is as busy, but I can imagine it is.

¡Muy buenas razones para visitar una granja de alpacas con tu familia!

¿Alguna vez haz sentido la necesidad de conectar un poco más con la naturaleza?

Si eres de los míos y la vida en la ciudad te agobia de vez en cuando, hazte un favor y agrega Wanderlight Alpaca Experience a tu lista de lugares por visitar en Ontario.

Esta hermosa granja está a solo dos horas de Toronto, en Lakefield, una ciudad pequeñita y muy bonita, perfecta para una escapada de fin de semana en cualquier época del año.

The Alpaca Experience es una caminata privada de una hora organizada por Katie y su manada de alpacas. ¡Una aventura que mi bebé disfrutó al máximo y esperamos repetir muy pronto!

Llegando a la granja

Desde que nos bajamos del carro nos sentimos bienvenidos: Katie, patos, gallinas y Lark (un típico perrito de granja) nos recibieron. Santiago se fue corriendo tras los patos y hasta probó su comida por error dándoles de comer. Las carcajadas, más que garantizadas jajaja.

Katie te va a presentar a todas las alpacas y compartirá datos importantes sobre estos animalitos super cuchis mientras te vas sintiendo más cómodo con ellos. Realmente no toma tiempo estar a gusto 🙂

Escoges a tus compañeros y comienza la caminata. Nosotros elegimos a Heaven y Puck.

Siento que son similares a los perros en términos de afecto y leí que prefieren seguirte en lugar de liderar. Capaz no es así siempre, pero en nuestra experiencia de un día fue tal cual.

No les gustaba mucho que los acariciaran, pero se restregaban contra nosotros, como hacen los perros.

Realmente se comportaron mejor de lo que yo pensaba, fueron amables y muy pacientes, e incluso Santiago los guió varias veces.

Una actividad genial para niños

Si tienes niños, te recomiendo muchísimo esta experiencia: les muestra amabilidad y paciencia, promueve su curiosidad y ayuda a construir su confianza y afinidad con otros seres vivos.

Realmente nos sorprendió mucho el entusiasmo de Santiago. No parecía asustado ni incómodo y lo que más le encantaba era correr libre por toda la granja.

Siempre tuvo una sonrisa de oreja a oreja (a pesar de todos los insectos, jejeje) y se emocionó mucho cuando un saltamontes se le montó encima. ¡Esta es una experiencia que promueve la curiosidad al máximo!

Ver el mundo a través de los ojos de nuestros hijos está de primero en la lista de cosas que me hacen extremadamente feliz, y estoy segura de no soy la única. Puede sonar un poco cursi, pero de verdad es mágico estar ahí en sus primeras veces, ¿verdad?

¡Recomiendo mucho esta experiencia! Definitivamente, vale la manejada.

Ojo al dato: ¡La granja es bastante popular!

Tienes que reservar con tiempo en su página web wanderlightalpaca.ca. Cuesta $35 por persona, de 6 a 12 años $25, y menores de 6 años entran gratis. 

Yo le envié un correo electrónico a Katie un par de meses antes de ir, y ella me avisó cuando el calendario estaba a punto de abrirse. Fuimos a mediados de septiembre, no estoy segura si siempre está así de full, pero me imagino que sí.
